CITYWIDE — COUNCILMEMBER MERCEDES NARCISSE has introduced Intr. 948A, a measure to amend Local Law 18, which restricts short-term rentals through services like Airbnb, according to News 12.
The bill would allow one- and two-family homeowners to host up to four guests, up from two, and to rent out their property without being physically present, as well as to lock rooms within the home.
Narcisse said the change “is the solution working families and small homeowners need so they’re no longer penalized for responsibly using their homes to make ends meet and strengthen our local economy.”
Airbnb backed the proposal, saying the 2023 law “failed to deliver” on housing affordability goals.
