Monday afternoon fire in Manhattan ruled arson

MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – A Monday afternoon fire in Manhattan that caused substantial damage is being investigated as arson, officials said.

The blaze was reported at 4:04 p.m. Monday at a three-story, 23-unit condominium at 815 Moro St. in Manhattan. The building was occupied at the time of the fire, officials said.

Upon arrival, crews found six air-conditioning units on fire.

The fire was contained within five minutes as crews made a quick response and knockdown.

The total estimated loss was listed at $70,000 for the air-conditioning units.

Manhattan Fire Department officials said the cause of the blaze was intentional, and Riley County Police Department filed an aggravated arson report.

No injuries were reported.

There were no immediate reports of arrests.
