This week’s dose of warm weather marks the perfect timing for the Cunningham Park Farmers Market to start a new season, giving locals the perfect activity to begin their Sunday morning perusing items from fresh produce to pies, honey, and much more.
The outdoor market, organized by Down to Earth Markets, will be located in the Cunningham Park lot near the tennis courts in Fresh Meadows, starting on Sunday, April 19, from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. and will continue to take place every Sunday through mid-December.Â
This year, the market will feature a list of vendors, including Great Joy Family Farm, Jessy’s Empanadas & Sweets, Wave Hill Breads, Noushi Pastry, Bunny’s Vegan Bakery, Flowering Sun, and many more. Whether guests are looking for in-season fresh produce for their dinner recipes or want to discover locally based bakers and goods, the market has plenty to explore each weekend.

Down to Earth Markets hosts several markets throughout the city, including Manhattan, Brooklyn and Westchester, bringing together local farmers, makers, and area food for residents to access locally grown, in-season produce and ingredients. The market is intended not only to encourage a healthier lifestyle but also to support climate-conscious food choices that help the planet by reducing the carbon footprint of a typical diet. With Earth Day on April 22, just days after the start of the new farmer’s market season, it offers a great way to eat healthier while honoring the planet.
The Cunningham Park market location opened in 2017 with support from community partner, Jamaica Estates Association. Since Down to Earth Market’s inception over 30 years ago, founded by Miriam Haas, the market, which is recognized as a Certified B Corporation, recognized for its social and environmental impact, has become a highlight of warm weather, offering locals a wide variety of locally grown produce, artisanal food, baked goods, and dairy products made in small batches.Â
