BROOKLYN, NY — Two people were killed and a firefighter injured after flames ripped through a Crown Heights apartment building Monday night, officials said.

The fire was first reported around 11 p.m. at 446 Kingston Avenue, a six-story building between Empire Boulevard and Lefferts Avenue, according to authorities.

Firefighters raced to the scene after flames broke out on the third floor of the building, officials said.

An 80-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man were pulled from the building and taken to Kings County Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

One firefighter was also hospitalized in stable condition after inhaling smoke, officials said.

The fire has since been extinguished, though several residents were evacuated from the building, authorities said.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the FDNY fire marshal.
