16th Annual Roger Rees AwardsA Spirited Evening of Broadway Showtunes

New York, N.Y. – The Broadway Education Alliance and Disney Theatrical Group announce the 16th Annual Roger Rees Awards Showcase celebrating Excellence in Student Performance.  The Roger Rees Awards serves as Greater New York City’s high school musical theater awards program, shining a spotlight on the next generation of theater creators and recognizing the importance of theatre arts education.

The event will showcase the talents of 50 high school artists from schools located throughout the Greater New York region who have been nominated for Outstanding Performer.  Cheer on students and educators being honored for their dedication to the arts while enjoying group musical numbers by the nominees, accompanied by the New York City Center Youth Orchestra, a new 18-member group of student musicians assembled and directed by Rick Hip-Flores, with 12 finalists selected to perform solos.

The evening will culminate with the announcement of the Outstanding Performer Award winners, two students selected by a panel of Broadway industry professionals, who will represent New York at The Broadway League Foundation’s National High School Musical Theatre Awards aka The Jimmy Awards® in June at the Minskoff Theatre.  Students across various categories will also be recognized for their commitment to the arts both on and off the stage.

This annual event will be hosted by Andrew Keenan-Bolger, actor, director, filmmaker and author of the recently released Young Adult novel “Limelight”. Keenan-Bolger is best known for originating the roles of Crutchie in Newsies and Jesse Tuck in Tuck Everlasting on Broadway.
