The Mavericks knocked the cover off of the ball on Tuesday night, collecting their second-most hits of the season and a road win over the Wildcats in the process.

Omaha (12-17, 7-5 Summit) scored in six different innings en route to a 12-5 rout of Kansas State (23-14, 7-8 Big 12). Fresh off of an improbable walk-off win against ORU on Sunday, the Mavs have rattled off two quality wins in a row.

Omaha opened the scoring early. After Chase Diggins grounded out to start the game, Henry Zipay and Jackson Trout both singled to bring up Nick Riggs. He crushed a three-run bomb to center field, giving the Mavs an immediate 3-0 cushion.

The next inning, there were more fireworks. Three straight knocks to begin the frame, including extra-base hits from Cardel Dick and Drew Borner, plated one more Mav run. Diggins drove in another with an RBI groundout before Trout singled in Borner to push the lead to six.

The Wildcats fought back in the bottom half of the inning. Chandler Murray drove a two-run single through the right side to get KSU on the board. Then, Shea McGahan launched a sacrifice fly to score another, cutting the deficit in half as the Mavs led 6-3 entering the third.

K-State starter Tanner Duke was pulled to begin the frame in favor of Austin Haley. Hayden Lewis greeted him with a double, then advanced to third base on an error by Cadyn Karl. Borner notched an RBI with a sac fly to add another insurance run.

Maverick opener Michael Sall ran into more trouble in his half of the third. Dee Kennedy led off the inning with a solo bomb before Sall walked the next batter. Evan Porter called upon Brayden Curtis to clean up the mess, and he recorded two quick outs before hitting AJ Evasco with a pitch. Karl then doubled to left-center, plating one run, but Evasco was thrown out at the plate on a picture-perfect relay to end the inning. Omaha remained on top 7-5.

From the fourth inning on, the Mavs controlled the flow of the game. They added another run on an RBI double from Tyler Bishop. A few frames later, Dick blasted a solo home run to keep their foot on the gas. Simultaneously, Curtis locked in, tossing five scoreless innings while striking out five and inducing eight groundouts.

The Mavs capped off the night with a three-run ninth. Mason Gaines got in on the fun with an RBI double before Borner and Diggins collected more ribbies. Nate Moquin closed the door on the Wildcats with a scoreless ninth.

Curtis (3-2) was the winning pitcher for his efforts. Sall allowed only three earned runs out of five total runs in his two innings of work. Overall, the Mavs logged seven extra-base hits, and eight of nine starters recorded base knocks. The one outlier was Diggins, who notched two RBIs without joining the hit parade. Suffice to say it was a good night for the Omaha offense.

Duke (3-2) suffered the loss after surrendering eight hits and six earned runs in two innings. The Wildcat offense managed just six hits on the night.

The Mavs will travel up to Fargo this weekend to take on NDSU. Game one against the Bison (5-22, 2-7 Summit) is slated for Friday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m.Â
