Utica Residents Rally for New York State Budget Passage at Office Building

UTICA, N.Y. — A group of local residents gathered to call for changes as the State budget remains unresolved.

Citizen Action of New York organized the demonstration outside the State Office Building on Genesee Street in downtown Utica.

The group focused on issues tied to the budget process, including proposed changes to the climate bill, car insurance reform and tax adjustments for higher-income individuals.

“We have a lot of million and billionaires here in New York City, and what we really want, our taxpayers…the rich to pay their fair share by ensuring that they pass a universal child care system, housing protections healthcare and all of these things,” Enoshja Ruffin, spokesperson for Citizen Action of New York, said.

A third extender for the budget process was passed yesterday.

Gov. Hochul’s proposed spending plan totals more than $260 billion.
