On August 27, 2025, at approximately 10:57 p.m., New York State Police responded to a personal injury motor vehicle crash on State Route 56 in the town of Pierrepont.
Upon arrival, Troopers located a 2015 black Ford that had left the roadway. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Timothy O. Farns, age 23, of Potsdam, NY. An investigation determined that Farns was traveling southwest on State Route 56 when he failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, struck a tree and a National Grid utility pole, and came to rest in a nearby yard.
While speaking with Farns, the Troopers observed signs of impairment. He was evaluated by Potsdam EMS and transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital for further evaluation. While at the hospital, Troopers administered a Standardized Field Sobriety Test, which Farns failed. He subsequently consented to a blood draw to determine his blood alcohol content (BAC).
The toxicology report later indicated a BAC of .19%. On October 26, 2025, Farns reported to SP Canton for processing. He was charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and issued traffic tickets returnable to the Town of Pierrepont Court at a later date in November.
