QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — A newborn is alive after firefighters’ quick response during a home birth on Myrtle Avenue last Saturday, according to FDNY.

Firefighter Jeffrey Jovin, a former paramedic with experience in childbirth, realized the baby was not breathing and had no pulse. He immediately began CPR while another firefighter assisted with ventilation until EMS arrived.

EMS personnel cut the umbilical cord and continued lifesaving efforts while transporting the newborn to a nearby hospital.

Officials said their actions made a difference, and the baby regained a pulse and began breathing.

“It was a beautiful delivery,” Jovin said.
