DERBY — A threat made toward a school in New York City prompted a police officer to be present at Derby Public Schools Friday morning, according to school officials.
Derby Superintendent of Schools Matthew Conway said in a message to families Friday that the gun threat in New York was made Thursday. Law enforcement initially believed the suspect resided in Ansonia and authorities were working to find the person, according to Conway.
Conway said the police presence was a precaution.
“There is no indication of a direct threat to our schools at this time,” Conway said.
Ansonia police Lt. Patrick Lynch said the suspect does not live in Ansonia but was arrested by the department in a separate and unrelated incident late last year. The suspect’s address on file was in another state, Lynch noted.
Lynch said on Friday that Ansonia police assisted the New York Police Department by checking the location of the arrest incident, but the suspect was not there.
“There is no credible threat in Ansonia or to the Ansonia School system,” Lynch said.
