ALBANY — NEW YORK STATE legislators approved a fourth budget extender Thursday, keeping payroll and core operations funded through Monday as negotiations stretch more than two weeks past the April 1 deadline, according to Spectrum News.
The stopgap heads to Gov. Kathy Hochul for signature. Major sticking points include her proposals to revise state auto insurance law, roll back portions of the 2019 climate statute, raise taxes on top earners, adjust school aid and rework Tier 6 pensions. Assembly Minority Leader Ed Ra blamed Hochul in a partial statement for floating a luxury second-home surcharge absent from earlier drafts.
Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie said talks are advancing, though Senate Deputy Majority Leader Mike Gianaris earlier accused the governor of refusing to compromise.
Some assemblymembers on Wednesday criticized what they called Hochul’s “executive overreach in the budget process.”
