Kelsea Ballerini opened up about her new chapter — including her single life — in New York City.

Ballerini, 32, joined Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones on TODAY with Jenna & Sheinelle on Friday morning (April 17). The country superstar spoke with the TODAY hosts about her temporary move to the city from Nashville, Tennessee, her single life, working on new music, opening up about wanting to be a mother in “I Sit in Parks,” a new competition for musicians and more.

“I’m in love with it here,” Ballerini beamed when asked about her move to NYC. She’ll live there “through the summer for now,” she said. “I want to make my next record up here. But down the road, I don’t know. I really am loving it. It’s just such an alive place. It’s so creative. …I’m loving this chapter of life just because I really feel like I’m being really intentional about connecting to myself,” she added later of her current chapter, including being single. “Also, being off the road right now, this is my first time not touring in a while, and being somewhere new and making new friends. I just haven’t had the time to invest in myself like that for a while.”

Ballerini went on to open up about a three-day intensive therapy program to delve into people-pleasing patterns and the understanding she gained in the process. The singer-songwriter said, “I don’t want to give anyone else the power to tell me how I should feel about myself, or my choices, or the life I choose to lead.”

Ballerini most recently dated Outer Banks star Chase Stokes. Though rumors recently spread that she was dating Southern Charm star Craig Conover, unnamed “sources with direct knowledge” told TMZ earlier this week that those rumors are not true.

Ballerini revealed she moved to New York City when she took the stage at Carnegie Hall last month, during the Evening with the Grand Ole Opry show. She shared with the audience at the time, “I just moved here. Ever since I was a little kid and I got to come here for the first time I always promised myself that I would do a season or a chapter of life in the city and that season and chapter is right now. I don’t know how long that’s gonna last, but I’m really loving it.” She added later, “you can take the girl out of Nashville, but you can’t take the Nashville out of the girl.”
