Rochester, N.Y. — A 7-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman were attacked by a dog Friday in the 19th Ward, according to the Rochester Police Department.
Police said the victims were walking on a sidewalk along Depew Street shortly before 3:30 p.m. when the dog “advanced and bit them repeatedly.”
The adult female was able to pull the child away from the dog while taking additional bites herself until the dog disengaged.
The victims were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. The girl had bites to the upper and lower body, while the woman had bites to her arms. No other injuries were reported.
Police said the owner turned the dog over to animal control. The incident remains under investigation.
