THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) – New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and former President Barack Obama read to a group of kids on Saturday, according to officials.

Obama joined Mamdani to read a children’s book to a group of toddlers and met with families in the South Bronx.

In a social media post, Mayor Mamdani is shown holding the book “Alone & Together” by Emilie Chazerand, with illustrations by Amandine Piu. The picture book explains why we need each other—friends, families, neighbors, communities—and reassures children that being alone is also powerful, according to a Barnes & Noble description.

In another social media post, Mayor Mamdani and President Obama are shown waving their hands back and forth while singing, “The wipers on the bus go swish, swish, swish all through the town,” a lyric from the popular children’s song “Wheels on the Bus.”

Officials said the two leaders discussed the Mayor’s vision for New York City and the importance of giving New York’s children the best possible start in life.
