WILLIAMSBURG — YESHAYAHUW CARRAWAY, 41, of the Bronx, was arrested and charged at 7:40 p.m. on Saturday in connection with a hate crime assault that occurred in Brooklyn on Jan. 18, according to a police report.
New York Police Department officers say Carraway approached a 24-year-old man aboard a northbound L train at the Lorimer Street station at approximately 5 a.m., directed anti-LGBTQIA+ statements at him, followed him off the train, displayed a knife and punched him repeatedly about the head and body before fleeing on a northbound L train.
The victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention. Carraway faces charges of hate crime assault, assault, hate crime menacing, menacing, aggravated harassment (two counts), harassment and theft of services.
The investigation was conducted by the NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force.
