MOHAWK, N.Y. — A union representing State corrections officers is raising concerns about safety inside prisons.

The New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) is calling on the governor to step in after three corrections officers and two National Guard members were hospitalized on Easter Sunday when they were exposed to an unknown substance brought in by a visitor.

One corrections officer was placed on a ventilator because of the exposure.

NYSCOPBA is pushing for immediate changes to the HALT Act, stronger laws against contraband and action to address double bunking.
