DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. — Concerns about a possible school shooting at Dolgeville Central School prompted an early morning investigation.
The New York State Police reported that at about 6:16 a.m. on April 20, a male caller alerted them to a social media post implicating a 14-year-old student in a potential threat.
Police, along with Dolgeville Central School administration and the Dolgeville Police Department, began investigating immediately.
Authorities determined the situation started when a student warned peers about a possible threat after hearing information from another student.
The information traced back to a conversation overheard between staff members about an unrelated prior event at Clinton Central School.
Police explained that the details were taken out of context and spread among students, which led to the report and community concern.
Investigators interviewed students and staff and reviewed electronic devices.
There is no credible threat to Dolgeville Central School, and no charges have been filed.
