CONCORD, New Hampshire (WGME) — A New York man is accused of fraudulently getting about $167,000 worth of groceries from Hannaford Supermarkets across New England.

The Department of Justice says 33-year-old Clinton Rathan was arrested on April 16 in New York and has been charged with four counts of wire fraud.

According to the indictment, Rathan placed more than 500 pick-up orders for groceries through the Hannaford app across a seven-month period in 2022.

He used fake identities and fake debit and credit cards to place the orders.

After Rathan picked up the grocery orders, officials say Hannaford tried to process the debit or credit card information, but the cards were all declined.

If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Rathan has been released on $15,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in federal court in Concord, New Hampshire, on April 30.
