The Baruch College Bearcats earned a non-conference victory on Tuesday afternoon at King’s Point, New York, defeating the Bears of St. Joseph’s University of Brooklyn, 14–9. The win allowed the Bearcats to avenge a loss from last Tuesday, when St. Joseph’s outlasted the Bearcats in a 22–15 slugfest.
The Bearcats jumped on the Bears early with a five-run first inning to seize control of the game. Joseph Bello drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and Zachary Niedzwiecki followed with an RBI single to spark the outburst. The Bearcats continued to add on, plating two runs in each of the second and third innings to extend their advantage to 9–4. They then blew the game open in the fifth inning, scoring four runs highlighted by a two-run single from Frank Scerra.
St. Joseph’s mounted a late rally in its final at-bat, scoring four runs to pull within 14–9, but the comeback fell short. Ryan Foerst was steady in long relief to earn the victory, throwing 6.2 innings and striking out a career-high nine batters to help secure the team’s 11th victory of the regular season.
Offensively, Bello finished with four RBIs and joined Peter Marino in recording three-hit performances. Marino and Roy Longarzo each collected two doubles as the Bearcats delivered a balanced attack in the road victory.
