1. New York lawmakers pass sixth state budget extender that runs through April 27

The New York state Legislature on Wednesday passed a sixth state budget extender — now three weeks past the budget’s deadline — which was prompty signed into law by Gov. Kathy Hochul. The extender runs through Monday, April 27 and funds essential expenses. The budget was due April 1.

2. Hochul signs executive order barring state employees from insider trading on prediction markets

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signed an executive order that prohibits state employees from engaging in insider trading on prediction markets, her office announced Wednesday.

3. N.Y. lawmakers pass bill that would give incentives for institutions to buy electric lawn equipment

The legislation, pushed by state Sen. Liz Krueger and State Assemblymember Steven Otis, would create a rebate program for the purchase of electric lawn care equipment by landscaping companies and government institutions like schools. It passed the state Assembly on Monday and the state Senate on Tuesday.

4. Rochester City Council votes to approve sale of Charlotte Street green space to build housing

The vote was not unanimous, as some council members opposed the loss of the green space. Their votes were a reflection of the more than 800 people who signed a petition opposing the development.

5. Wegmans celebrating 10 years of its Zero Waste initiative on Earth Day

The grocer says as of this year, nearly 90% of its store materials are diverted from landfills through food donations, composting and recycling.

6. Buffalo Bills Mock Draft: Could WR edge out defense early?

NFL Draft week has finally arrived and this is one of the more interesting Buffalo Bills drafts to project in recent years, beginning with the No. 26 overall pick. There’s a new (albeit familiar) head coach in Joe Brady, along with a new defensive coordinator in Jim Leonhard, who brings with him a different scheme than we saw for nine seasons under Sean McDermott.

NHL commissioner says outdoor hockey will return to Western N.Y.

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman says that it is only a matter of time before another outdoor hockey game is played in Western New York.

Bettman was in Buffalo for Game 2 of the opening round series between the Sabres and the Boston Bruins and held a press conference before the game.Â
