A West Hartford-based aerospace supplier has been acquired by a private equity firm, according to an announcement.

New York City-based Behrman Capital said it has acquired Metallizing Service Co., which provides protective coating services for aerospace and industrial applications.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded in 1940, Metallizing Service Co. supplies engineered coatings for commercial and military aerospace engines, as well as industrial gas turbines and other equipment.

Behrman Capital, founded in 1991, said it invests in buyouts and recapitalizations of established growth companies, with a focus on defense and aerospace, health care and specialty industrial sectors.

The firm said it has raised about $4.3 billion since inception and is currently investing from its seventh fund.

The acquisition was backed by financing from asset management firm Barings, which served as lead agent on the credit facilities supporting the deal.
