Rochester, N.Y. — The original Abbott’s Frozen Custard in the Charlotte area is celebrating its 100th anniversary season.
The landmark ice cream shop on Lake Avenue started off in 1926 as a custard stand. It was opened by Arthur Abbott, who fell in love with Rochester after traveling the country.
For 100 years, Abbott’s Frozen Custard in Charlotte has been a gathering spot for anyone and everyone in this community to come for a sweet treat served with a smile,” Gail Drew, owner and president of Abbott’s, said in a statement. “We love our guests, and are truly honored to be part of so many of their traditions.
Today, there are more than 30 Abbott’s locations. Most of them are in the Rochester region, but there’s also shops in Massachusetts, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida and Louisiana
The Lake Avenue shop is hosting a day of community-focused festivities July 17 to celebrate 100 years of business. Details will be released in the coming weeks.
