New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has been very clear that she wants to prioritize the creation of hundreds of thousands of housing units to address the state’s housing crisis.
One tool she wants to use to do that is the state’s Environmental Quality Review Act, or SEQRA. It was created back in the 1970s to ensure an environmental analysis was done before construction projects were started.
Now the Governor views SEQRA as a hindrance to building in some circumstances.Â
Ruth Ann Visnauskas, the state commissioner of Homes and Community Renewal, joined Capital Tonight Thursday to discuss the issue.
