WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – Announcing it’s full season opening, and bringing a weekend of activities to North Country families, Zoo New York held it’s first ever Spring Fling celebration.
A stroll through the zoo this Saturday and Sunday came with the added benefit of zookeeper presentations each half hour, 40-plus vendors spread throughout the walking trail of the zoo, and some very spry animals enjoying the nice weather.
This Spring Fling event is actually the zoo’s annual Earth Day and Season Kickoff celebrations combined into one weekend. The decision to combine the events was so the zoo could make it one big weekend of family fun.
The celebration also served as an announcement; the zoo is changing it’s hours for the summer season and staying open longer.
“This is the turning point when we go into our summer hours,” said Mark Irwin, the zoo’s Interim Executive Director. “So the zoo is going to be open everyday from 10 o’clock until 5 o’clock moving ahead. So if you want to come by after school, we’re going to be open until 5.“
Zoo officials say the Spring Fling attendance was great, and they’re glad to have the continued support of the community.
