Albany, NY (WRGB) — A 35-year-old Bronx man has been indicted and arraigned in Albany County after authorities said he was caught transporting 16,500 envelopes of fentanyl and heroin from New York City to the Capital Region.

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced that 35-year-old Ramon Riveras was arraigned on an indictment before Judge William Little. Riveras is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the first degree, a Class A-1 felony, and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree.

The indictment says that on March 1, during a traffic stop by New York State Police at 7:42 p.m. on Washington Avenue Extension, Riveras was found with glassine envelopes filled with fentanyl and heroin. The case was investigated by the New York State Police Violent Gang and Narcotics Enforcement Team.

Riveras pleaded not guilty and was remanded to the custody of the Albany County Correctional Facility. Assistant District Attorney Bryanne Brucato, chief of the Street Crimes Bureau, is prosecuting the case.
