KOCHVILLE TWP, MI – Construction is expected to begin soon on a new Dairy Queen Grill & Chill in Kochville Township, adding yet another fast-food option to the area.

The restaurant will be built on a vacant, approximately two-acre property just north of the Meijer on Tittabawassee Road, said Kochville Township Manager Steve King. The site is between a Family First Credit Union and Fifth Third Bank.

The property, located at 3300 Tittabawassee Road, is owned by Wael Hamade of Canton, who is working with a Carrollton Township-based consulting firm, D&M SITE Inc.

“Obviously, from our standpoint, it’s fantastic to see people wanting to invest on the Tittabawassee Road corridor, and Tittabawassee functions as one of the region’s major arterial roads,” King said. “So, obviously, these investors feel that the trends are good for our area with the number of cars driving by and the number of people in the area.”

In June, the Kochville Township Planning Commission unanimously approved a site plan for the 1,946-square-foot restaurant, which includes a drive-thru.

Dairy Queen officials are working with the township’s building department to obtain the approval necessary to move forward with construction, which is expected to begin no later than next month, King said.

Dairy Queen has over 4,000 restaurants across the United States, with more than 150 locations in Michigan, according to the chain’s website.

The fast-food chain serves ice cream, fries, burgers, chicken tenders, hot dogs and more. Dairy Queen’s menu features a variety of frozen treats from sundaes to the chain’s signature Blizzard Treats, which feature a wide range of toppings.

The nearest existing Dairy Queen locations to Kochville Township are in Midland and Birch Run.

While it will be the only Dairy Queen in the township, the new location is not the first restaurant the chain has opened there. A former Dairy Queen at the site now occupied by Firehouse Subs, located at 5208 Bay Road, closed permanently about 20 years ago, King said.

The Dairy Queen will join several other new businesses coming soon to Kochville Township, which include a new Raising Cane’s location on Bay Road that is expected to open next year.

The new restaurant is also just down the road from the former Quality Inn, located at 2222 Tittabawassee Road, which the Kochville Township Downtown Development Authority recently purchased with plans to demolish the hotel to make way for future development.

“We are busy, but again, we’re not complaining,” King said. “It’s a good problem to have.”

King said the restaurant is also expected to attract customers from neighboring Saginaw Township.

“We’re happy whether it’s on the Saginaw Township side of the road or on our side of the road,” King said. “We’re a regional economy.”
