A new sound-focused members club, Stylus, is opening in New York.
The venue will take up a four-storey building in Manhattan’s Lower East Side and open this September. The 10,000-square-foot complex, located on 48 Clinton Street, once housed Loho Studios, a recording and rehearsal facility used by Patti Smith, Moby and Joey Ramone.
The ground floor features a central listening room with a custom sound system designed by OJAS founder Devon Turnbull. The area is also equipped with a spatial audio system by Amadeus Acoustics that alters a room’s reverberation time. Live sets, talks, film screenings and other events will be hosted here.
In the cellar is a subterranean lounge equipped with another OJAS system for meditation and 40Hz sound therapy.
The upper levels, meanwhile, are restricted to members. They house a recording studio, a green room for artists, a lounge, private listening spaces, areas for sensory experiences and a residential space with a test kitchen. A Friendly Pressure sound system occupies the fourth floor.
