The husband of murdered beauty queen Carolina Flores Gómez has reportedly told police he attempted to breastfeed their baby from her corpse following her killing.
The new mother was shot in the face, neck and head on April 15. Prosecutors have named the victim’s mother-in-law, Erika Maria Herrera, as the prime suspect. Herrera was allegedly present in the house alongside her son — Carolina’s partner — at the time of the shooting.
She fled the scene following the alleged killing and remains at large. Questions have also been raised over a significant delay in reporting Carolina’s death. The shooting is said to have occurred late in the evening on Wednesday, April 15.

But Carolina’s partner, Alejandro, did not notify police until the following day, NeedToKnow reports. Carolina’s mother, Reyna Gómez Molina, has accused him of keeping the body at home in order to give the suspect time to escape.

Alejandro, however, reportedly told authorities he tried to feed their child from Carolina’s body, as she had been nursing at the time of her death, reports the Daily Star. He also claimed he feared their baby would be taken into care by social services.
Investigators have yet to verify these claims. Alejandro has not been arrested but remains under investigation for potential involvement or negligence, given the delayed report and his presence at the scene.

It has also been suggested that a multimillion-pound inheritance could be the driving motive behind the murder. Carolina is believed to have come into a considerable inheritance in 2022 after her father, Jorge Flores, passed away.
According to her family, Herrera was there during the signing of the documents.

Carolina gained recognition after winning the Miss Teen Universe crown for Baja California in 2017.
She also claimed several local pageant titles in Ensenada, where she grew up. Investigators are still looking into her death, which occurred in Mexico City’s upscale Polanco neighborhood.
