BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) – An MTA bus driver is facing charges after an 87-year-old pedestrian was hit and killed in Brooklyn back in June, according to the NYPD.
Police said 35-year-old Andre Reid, of Florida, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.
Reid was driving the bus on East 12th Street around 6:40 p.m. on June 2 when he went to make a left turn onto Avenue Z, according to authorities. Police said that’s when 87-year-old Semen Givant, who was walking in the crosswalk, was struck.
Givant suffered severe trauma to his chest and later died at a local hospital, according to authorities. Police said Reid stayed at the scene and was also taken to a hospital.
