— Arriving at Lakeside Golf Club in the morning, Perham girls golf head coach Cory Solberg and his hive of busy bees were met with snow at the driving range.
As the day went on, the sun peeped through the clouds for a beautiful Heart O’ Lakes Conference Invite on Thursday, April 30.
The Yellowjackets ended their round with a third-place finish and a team score of 418. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton stole the show with a 384.
“The girls got around pretty darn quickly, and days like today is going to be more mental than physical,” Solberg said. “So if you can get through some of those tougher times, I think your scores are going to be a little bit better. It’s going to allow you to execute your shots just a little bit better.”
Perham’s top golfer, sophomore Brooklyn Glorvigen, was the Queen Bee again, shooting a 21-over-par 93 and tying for sixth place. She’s been at the top of the Yellowjackets’ leaderboard through their five events.

There aren’t many teams that can say their best golfer is a 10th grader. Solberg noted that they have always had an upperclassman in the No. 1 spot. Glorvigen has earned the title and hasn’t buckled under the pressure of the No. 1 spot..
“Today she got to play with a state participant that played last year, and a couple of girls shot in the 70s so far,” Solberg said. “I think she really enjoys playing with that group. She’s got to work on a few things with execution, and when she starts executing the way she can, oh, she’s gonna shoot some really good scores for us down the stretch.”
Halle Reuter snuck her way into the top 20 with a 35-over-par 107, placing 17th. Bryn Berube and Elise Reuter tied for 19th after they each shot a 37-over-par 109.

Brynn Guck took 26th place after shooting a 41-over-par 113. Monica Bella ended the day in 44th place with a 49-over-par 121. Cora Wiser rounded out the scores with a 59-over-par 131 and a 52nd-place finish.
“There’s lots of room to continue to get better,” Solberg said. “We’ve all hit some really good shots and played some really good golf, and then there are times when we are not executing the way the girls know that they can. So at the end of April here, I think we’re in a pretty good spot. May is going to be really busy, but that’s kind of the way it should be as we get ready for subsections and then sections.”
Solberg has seen tons of improvements since the first swings of the season. A lot of the Yellowjackets came into the year with little to no varsity experience. As the season has progressed, Solberg remains optimistic that scores will get lower and the temperature, hopefully, will begin to rise.
“We just continue to gain more and more experience with every 18 holes that we play,” Solberg said. “We’ve got a tough stretch ahead of us with this week. Next week looks cold as well, and we will get through that. Then the following week the week after that, we’re going to continue to improve every single meet through the rest of the season.”
