Thorsby High School’s Brooklyn Reeser is The Clanton Advertiser girls basketball player of the year. Reeser claims the award after capping off her career with 1,533 career varsity points.

“She turned into her own offensive machine these last two years,” Thorsby head coach Kris Wood said. “She’s an all-around natural athlete, she plays three sports, she plays volleyball, basketball and softball.”

Reeser started playing for the Thorsby varsity team in eighth grade. After a year of contributing valuable minutes off the bench, Reeser watched their team graduate seven seniors. The following year, as a freshman, she was starting for the varsity team.

“I watched her, and I knew she was going to be a good ball player,” said Wood. “She’s easy to coach, she’s tough as nails, and she never misses practice. She’ll be tired and she’ll want to stay in the game even when I want to rest her.”

Reeser really took over in her junior year when she surpassed 1,000 points, won the Chilton County Tournament MVP award and was named to the All-Area team. She has been named on the All-Area team the past two years.

“She always gave her best in practice, she never complained, and she led by example… the team could see that,” said Wood. “She always did what she was asked, she was our best player and our hardest working player.”

Reeser, in all three of the sports she plays, has gained a reputation of never backing down or shying away. She has a mentality that there is nothing she cannot do, according to her coach.

“She’s very competitive, she is not a dirty player, but she does not back down, that’s one of the reasons she’s such a good basketball player,” said Wood. “She isn’t afraid of contact, and she’ll get in there with girls that are bigger and stronger than her.”

Despite some injuries this year, Reeser helped lead her team to an 18-8 record.. Reeser averaged 16.1 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.4 steals per game. In an important Class 3A Area 5 game this year, she showed off her scoring ability, scoring 41 points.

“She had a game this year where she scored 41 points,” said Wood. “It wasn’t against some no one team; this was against Alabama Christian Academy, it was a close game, we needed her points.”

Reeser ended her career with 1,533 points. She has committed to Southern Union State Community College for softball.
