Former One Direction singer Zayn Malik, who was hospitalized last month on the day his latest album dropped, has canceled all U.S. dates on his upcoming tour.
As of Sunday afternoon those dates plus shows in Dublin and Birmingham, U.K., had been scrubbed from his tour website. But tickets still seemed to be on sale for May 23 and 24th shows in London and Manchester, respectively, followed by six dates in Mexico and South America.
“To my fans: Thank you so much for all the support and love you’ve shown me on the album release and more importantly your love, prayers, and well wishes for my health,” the “Die for Me” singer posted on his Instagram stories. “I’ve felt it, and it’s meant the world. I’ve been at home recovering, and I’m doing well and will be better and stronger than before.”
He went on to say he had been forced to scale back his tour for his fifth solo album, “Konnakol,” originally scheduled for 31 dates.
“I’ve had to take another look at my schedule for the months ahead and have to reduce the number of shows,” he wrote. “I want to make sure I still get out and see as many of you as I possibly can. I’m really looking forward to playing these shows for you, and I hope to see the rest of you around the world very soon.”
The tour was to be the singer’s first time as a headliner at arenas and stadiums around the world. “Konnakol” was released on April 17, the day he revealed he was in the hospital recovering from an undisclosed illness.
“To my fans — thank you to all of you for your love & support now & always — been a long week and am still unexpectedly recovering,” the 33-year-old “Pillowtalk” singer captioned a photo of him in a hospital bed with an I.V. drip in his arm last month.
He profusely thanked hospital staff including doctors, nurses and cardiologists among others, according to People. It wasn’t clear at the time how long he’d been hospitalized.
Malik, who left One Direction in 2015, also canceled and postponed shows after the 2024 death of former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne, who fell from the balcony of a Buenos Aires hotel.
