A big-name grocery store has announced it will be permanently closing a store in Upstate New York.

One of the larger grocery store chains in New York has announced that it will be closing the doors to one of its stores for the final time at the beginning of 2026.

The Price Chopper/Market 32 store located at 358 North Main Street in Gloversville, NY, will close for the final time at the end of the day on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, according to WRGB.

Market 32 and Price Chopper President Blaine Bringhurst made the announcement in a statement saying,

“After thoroughly reviewing the store’s current and future viability, we concluded that closing is the appropriate course of action.”

The statement didn’t cite specific reasons as to why the store was closing, but Bringhurst did explain that this isn’t something the grocery store normally does.

“It’s never easy to close a store—and we rarely do—but we have an obligation to make thoughtful business decisions that position our company for long-term health and growth,” said Bringhurst. “We’ve had a long history in the Gloversville community and are deeply grateful to our customers and teammates for their loyalty and support over the years.”

The company invited customers who shop at the Gloversville store to shop at the nearby Price Chopper, about four miles away at 241 N Comrie Ave, Johnstown, NY.

What Happens to the Employees?

All of the 71 employees at the Fulton County, NY store, 18 full-time and 53 part-time, have been offered jobs at other stores in the area.

Price Chopper/Market 32 operates approximately 131 stores in New York, New England, and Pennsylvania.
