A suspect’s dog is dead after the animal attacked two officers.
The Brooklyn Center Police Department said that officers responded to a call about a man with an unleashed dog at a Speedway off of Brooklyn Boulevard at around 10:45 a.m. Sunday.
Police said the man initially started to cooperate, but once officers learned he had two warrants for his arrest, the man tried to leave, using his dog and skateboard to block officers.
Officers tried less-lethal options but they didn’t work, the department said, adding that during a struggle, the dog attacked officers.
One of the officers then fired at the dog. The animal was taken to the emergency veterinarian, but died.
The man was arrested and booked at Hennepin County jail.
