A wind-driven four-alarm fire tore through multiple homes in Queens on Sunday, injuring 14 firefighters and damaging at least two residences, according to ABC 7.
The fire was reported just before 3 p.m. on 93rd Street in the Jackson Heights area and quickly spread amid strong winds, sending thick black smoke into the air.
More than 200 firefighters responded as flames rapidly extended between neighboring homes. Fire conditions changed rapidly as firefighters searched two homes and left firefighters trapped above the fire. One firefighter was forced to deploy personal safety ropes to escape, officials said.
Three firefighters suffered serious injuries, while the remaining sustained minor injuries. Two residents were also treated for minor injuries, and all occupants were able to escape safely.
