A 65-year-old woman riding in the backseat of a for-hire vehicle on Manhattan’s Henry Hudson Parkway was killed by a wrong-way driver suspected of being drunk, police said Tuesday.
Ada Rivero was in the backseat of a for-hire Toyota Highlander heading downtown on the parkway when she was killed.
The driver of a Subaru headed uptown against traffic slammed into the SUV head-on near W. 79th St. about 3:40 a.m. Sunday, police said.
Rivero, who lived in Midtown, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital but could not be saved, cops said.
Her 49-year-old driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at Mount Sinai Morningside, cops said.
The 26-year-old driver of the Subaru was hospitalized with serious injuries. He was also taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving, cops said. Criminal charges were not immediately filed as police continue to investigate.
