HANOVER, NH – The Manhattan Jaspers baseball team (16-27, 8-16 MAAC) dropped the rubber game to the Big Green of Dartmouth College (15-22, 7-11 Ivy League) by a score of 1-0 from Red Rolfe Field at Biondi Park on Sunday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Looking to salvage the series were both the Jaspers and the Big Green. Both sides were unable to garner any momentum through the first two innings.
In the third inning, Joseph Duffield struck out the opening batter looking before retiring the next two of three batters.
Moving his on-base streak to 25 games was Andreaus Lewis, who led off the fourth inning with a walk, before advancing to third two batters later, but was ultimately stranded after Colin Basehore flew out to right field.
Still scoreless through four and a half, the Big Green posted the lone run off a triple to right center and drove home one run.
The Jaspers, again, had runners in scoring position, but were unable to bring Hunter Sute just 90 feet to tie the game at one.
In the ninth inning, Manhattan was threatening once more with a lead-off walk issued to Basehore, before Jackson Brinker pinch ran for the outfielder to provide speed.
After back-to-back ground-outs, Brinker was stranded on third to end the game.
