Senate Democrats block bill to repeal New York’s electric school bus mandate

ALBANY, N.Y. — Senate Democrats blocked a bill Tuesday that would have repealed New York’s electric school bus mandate.

The bill was introduced by Republican State Sen. George Borrello. It would have replaced the mandate with a pilot program to evaluate performance across the state.

Under the current mandate, New York schools must stop buying new diesel buses next year. The state requires a full transition to electric buses by 2035.
