The debate over U.S. Immigration anc Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations continues in New York.
Trump administration border czar Tom Homan said this week more ICE agents could be sent to New York if legislation limiting how law enforcement can work with the agency is passed.
The “Local Cops, Local Crimes Act,” proposed by Gov. Kathy Hochul earlier this year, would ban state and local law enforcement from coordinating with federal immigration enforcement for non-criminal violations. It would also prohibit local governments, police and corrections from entering agreements to allow the federal government to use their resources for civil immigration enforcement.
While speaking at a border security expo, Homan said he would “flood the streets” if the legislation is passed.

Hochul, while speaking to reporters on Tuesday, responded to Homan’s statement.
“All I will say to Mr. Homan is Donald Trump himself said he would not send a surge of ICE agents to the state of New York unless I ask. I am not asking,” Hochul said.
The governor said the state will work with ICE in cases involving dangerous criminals.
