BROWNSVILLE – THE METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION AUTHORITY IS currently working on constructing a new pedestrian bridge between the Junius Street 3 station and the Livonia Avenue L station, set to be completed this winter, according to News 12.
The two stations are just two blocks apart, and the 3’s elevated tracks even run over Livonia’s platform, but before now, commuters wanting to transfer had to exit the station and walk a block before climbing the stairs back up, which regular riders told News 12 was a big hassle, especially for people with mobility issues.
The new pedestrian bridge will significantly shorten the transfer, while other upgrades, including three new elevators, will help bring the stations into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.
“I’m not in the best shape to be walking up and down the stairs right now — it’s going to be a very lovely thing for me,” one rider told News 12. “I’m very lucky.”
Eleven other stations across Brooklyn are also currently being upgraded.
