The spring performance by the Queens College Choral Society, Treble Choir, Vocal Ensemble and Orchestra will feature Fauré’s Requiem, along with the world premiere of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass: Cantata for Soprano Solo, Chorus and Orchestra by Los Angeles-based composer and college alumnus David Stern.
The show, a major draw every year, is set for Saturday, May 16, at 8 pm in Colden Auditorium, at 153-49 Reeves Ave., on the college campus in Flushing. It will be the society’s 85th annual spring concert.
Soloists will include an alumna and two students from the college’s Aaron Copland School of Music. Soprano Lydia Saylor has a master’s degree in vocal performance from the music school, while baritone Yilin Chen and soprano Curtlyn Ifill are both vocal performance majors.
The show will be led by Copland professor James John, who has directed the society since 2002.
