A man was arrested Thursday on a misdemeanor for killing a father of two, who he struck with his pickup truck as the dad rode his bike in Queens, cops said.
The victim’s family was outraged to learn that Quinn Daly, 23, had been charged only with failure to yield to a pedestrian for the fatal crash that killed 48-year-old Xi Zheng on Jan. 20. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 30 days in jail and a $250 fine.
“I don’t think that’s fair,” the victim’s nephew Hui Huang, 31, told the Daily News. “That’s quite light for what he did.”
Daly was cruising south in his Ford F-150 pickup on 160th St. in Flushing when, while turning right onto Sanford Ave. around 10 a.m., he struck Zheng riding on his bike, according to law enforcement.
Huang said his family was “extremely distraught” in the wake of Zheng’s death.
“It just came out of nowhere,” he said.
Medics rushed the stricken cyclist to Presbyterian Queens Hospital with severe injuries to his head and body, but he could not be saved.
Zheng, an avid cyclist, was on his way to work when he was killed, according to another nephew.
“He always biked to work,” said Jacky Huang.
The victim leaves a son and a daughter.
“He was a good guy, family man,” Huang said. “It’s sad that he’s leaving behind two kids.”
