MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) – A Manhattan man was arrested Thursday, Oct. 9, after a crash that left a pedestrian with serious injuries.
Around 12:05 a.m., Riley County Police officers responded to a report of an injury crash in the intersection of 11th and Moro Street.
Officers found that a pedestrian, 19-year-old Madison Asbury, of Topeka, had been hit while crossing 11th Street in the crosswalk.
Riley County police reported that a man, Michael Smith, 25, of Manhattan, struck Asbury with his vehicle, a 2019 Ford F-350.
Asbury was taken to Stormont Vail in Topeka with serious injuries.
Smith was arrested around 12:35 p.m. in the 1000 block of Seth Child Road in connection with aggravated battery and failure to stop at an accident.
Smith is confined in the Riley County Jail under a $12,000 bond.
