GREENPOINT — A NEW YORK POLICE DEPARTMENT captain was transferred to a less desirable position on Tuesday, after a video began circulating on an Instagram account, @untilfreedom, depicting him calling Mayor Zohran Mamdani “expendable,” “not my boss,” and “an embarrassment and total nonsense,” according to The New York Times.
The captain, James G. Wilson, 51, commanding officer of the 94th Precinct, made the remarks while on duty near a Bushwick hospital where a crowd had gathered to protest Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, who had brought a detainee there following a confrontational arrest.
The comments violated the Police Department’s ban on expressing political opinions about a political party while on duty, according to the Times. Wilson was moved to the department’s communications division in the Bronx while a disciplinary process moves forward.
