Family and friends honored prom queen Jordyn “Lunar” Williams and her aunt, Cherese Fisher, with balloons and doves after a fatal crash on Lewis and Clark Boulevard.
BELLEFONTAINE NEIGHBORS, Mo. — Family and friends gathered to remember a high school prom queen and her aunt more than a week after a crash on Lewis and Clark Boulevard near Haviland Drive killed them and another woman.
Jordyn “Lunar” Williams and her aunt, Cherese Fisher, were honored during a memorial where loved ones shared memories, photos and prayers before releasing purple and white balloons, and doves into the sky.
According to family members, Williams, 18, had been preparing to graduate from Ritenour High School and had recently been crowned prom queen.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Williams and Fisher, 53, died after a southbound Cadillac SRX sideswiped their Lexus RX 350 on May 1 in Bellefontaine Neighbors, causing it to cross the center line and collide with an oncoming Toyota Highlander.
The front end of the Toyota struck the Lexus, causing the Lexus to overturn.
The Cadillac then veered off the road and crashed into a group of trees.
Family and friends described the women as caring and generous people whose lives were cut short.
“(Jordyn and Cherese) were so loving. Everybody loved both of them,” Evelyn Renee Williams, Fisher’s aunt, said. “Jordyn … was so outgoing … very energized. She had a lot of energy … and Cherese … was the backbone of the family.”
“I’m just going to miss them both. My heart longs for my daughter. I hurt every day,” Jordyn’s mom, Jennifer Nicole Walker Gibson, said.
The driver of the Toyota, 28-year-old Andrea Medina, was also killed.
In an interview last week, her brother, Juan Medina, said she was “a hardworking, kind hearted and dedicated mother. Just getting started in life. She has two kids — 6 and 1 year old.”
St. Louis County police said Devin Daugherty was driving the Cadillac involved in the crash. He was charged with three counts of leaving the scene of an accident and one count of driving on a revoked or suspended license.
Daughterty, 20, of Moline Acres, was being held at the St. Louis County Jail on a $250,000 bond. A bond reduction hearing was schedule for Tuesday, according to online court records.
