Manhattan congressional candidate Jack Schlossberg is calling for the federal government to turn the current annual tax credit for parents, into what he’s calling a “Monthly Mom’s bonus.”
Jack Schlossberg is running to replace fellow Democrat Jerry Nadler, who is retiring from the House after more than three decades.
His own mother, Caroline Kennedy, was on hand, to lend her support.
At a rally on the Upper East Side, Schlossberg also said that he wants to increase funding for the tax credit by redirecting appropriations proposed for President Trump’s East Wing ballroom.
“Trump wants a billion for the ballroom. I want a billion dollars for working families,” Schlossberg told the crowd.
Schlossberg is running against nearly a dozen other democrats for the party’s nomination in New York’s 12th Congressional District. At least five Republicans are running as well.
The Democrat and Republican who win next month’s primaries will face off in the November election.
“I learned from my mother that there’s nothing more important than how we raise our children,” said Kennedy, daughter of the late First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and a former U.S. Ambassador to Austrailia and Japan.
“I’m proud that Jack has a plan to help mothers and children right away,” she told attendees.
