Everybody’s parade
Naccarato noted that the parade originated as an Italian-America celebration, but the demographic of participants evolved over the years.
“For our Brooklyn parade, the main difference is that it involves so many community groups and local people,” said Naccarato. “It’s not just an Italian-American event; we have so many participants of different ethnic backgrounds, and that’s what makes it great. It brings out the unity in our neighborhood.”
Naccarato, who has been involved in organizing the parade for around 30 years, still refers to himself as “the new kid on the block.”
“It’s good to see kids participate as well, and witness their happiness,” he said, adding that it brings out the child even in adults.
