ALBANY, N.Y. — Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency due to food assistance cuts for three million New Yorkers starting Nov. 1.

The governor announced $65 million in new State funds for food banks and pantries, $40 million for the Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program and $25 million for Nourish NY.

These measures seek to provide emergency food relief to those in need.

Hochul also highlighted the deployment of Empire State Service Corps and SUNY Corps members to support food banks.

This includes expanding paid hours for current members and creating new crisis response positions to address staffing shortages.

New York, along with 24 other states, has sued the Trump administration to demand the release of emergency SNAP funds.

Earlier this week, Hochul fast-tracked $41 million in State funds, bringing the total to $106 million for emergency food assistance.
