Albany Mayor Dorcey Applyrs is offering more specifics about the $19.6 million deficit in the 2025 budget, previously thought to be $15 million.
The Fiscal Year 2026 fiscal year budget deficit is expected to be $22 million.
Applyrs is answering dozens of questions now that the city’s fourth quarter financial report has been submitted by Albany’s treasurer. She says if the city hiring freeze holds, 233 vacant city positions are left unfilled, and new officers soon join the Albany Police Department, it will help to cut the deficit by almost $6 million.
All departments are being asked to submit budget reduction strategies.
