Dozens gathered to screen a documentary about Hurricane Melissa and how the tropical cyclone battered Jamaica last year.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie and other officials got a first look at “New York Jamaica: The Relief Mission.”

Filmmaker Darryl Campbell documented how New Yorkers pitched in to help the island nation after the Category 5 storm made landfall last October with sustained 185 miles-per-hour winds, which caused massive flooding and catastrophic damage.

A New York delegation, led by Heastie, traveled to Jamaica to held rebuild some homes.

The screening of the film on Friday was held at the Northeast Bronx YMCA — sponsored by our parent company Spectrum.
